And they beat Caps 2 weeks ago. So 0-8 and then beat the top 2 sides on their home courts. What a turnaround.

Who won the Wizards-Rip game today?

  • #47
Mens Div 1 is going to be fun to watch over the last few weeks. Every game is important with only 6 spots out of 8 up for grabs. Head to head will come into play as well.

    Going down the ladder:

Caps and Wizards are locked in at 1/2 and they play each other this weekend, I think Wizards will finish on top!

Spartans probably have the easiest run home after they play Caps

Rip will make the playoffs but Flip is a big, big loss.

Pirates, Clippers and Logan will battle it out for the last 2 spots with one going home

Rollers won't make the playoffs, disappointing season.

Looks like Caps are missing some guys from earlier in the season? Is that a permanent thing or are they expecting them back?

Caps lose 2 in a row, Wizards should hold on to top spot and home court advantage for the rest of the season from here.

Who is Caps missing, looking at the player stats, looks like they have had most of the team for the season. Only noticeable was a guy who played one game and had 19 but after that anyone who hasnt played the majority of games didnt do much stats wise.

Who won today? Why is BQ and associations so shite with putting results up??

If all 8 were to play finals then the regular season games.would mean nothing... If there was to be a change from 6 team finals.in an 8 team comp, top 4 would be the way to go.

Disagree, everyone needs to play each other to work out standings but as results have shown this season only having 8 very good teams, any team can beat anyone on the night. Last beat first and second.

BQ current format has top 2 getting a week off so you could have all 8 play, I dont think it is an advantage to have a week off.

Disagree. Grand finalist last 3 years had week off... Won 2 of them.

Anyone know how the finals draws are shaping up. Surely both divisions only need a top 4 looking at the ladders?

Last round of the regular season coming up this weekend.

Plenty of things to look at in Div 1. I'll make a separate post for D2 later.

      Saturday 27th July
      Logan @ Rip
      Caps @ Rollers
      Wizards @ South West

      Sunday 28th July
      South West @ Rip
      Spartans @ Logan
      Gold Coast @ Maroochy

      Ladder
      Wiz 11/2
      Caps 9/4
      Spartans 8/5
      South West 5/7
      Logan 5/7
      Rip 5/7
      Maroochy 4/9
      Gold Coast 3/9

Because the ladder is so congested, there are so many ways the placings can shake out. Here's the main points for me:

      - Wizards/Caps are guaranteed to finish 1st/2nd and will rest during the first week of playoffs. Even if Caps lose this weekend and Spartans win, Caps go through on H2H.

      - Spartans guaranteed to finish 3rd.

      - Logan is in if they get at least one win

      - Despite impressing in the last few weeks, Gold Coast CAN'T make playoffs. Even if they win their last two games and tie with someone on 5/9, they get killed on H2H countback.

      - Maroochy can still make it if they finish tied on 5/9 with either Logan or South West, both of whom they own the H2H on. Rip has Maroochy on H2H, which means Rip is guaranteed to progress through.

So current me if I'm wrong but:

      1st - Wiz
      2nd - Caps
      3rd - Spartans

Guaranteed playoff spot somewhere - Rip

Final two spots dependent on results - Maroochy, Logan and South West

      Def out - Gold Coast

Last game of the round is Gold Coast @ Maroochy 3pm Sunday, could very well be waiting on this result to see how everything finishes up. This game is a non-event though is South West travels to beat Rip at 9:30am on Sunday (yuck) and if Logan get a win against either Rip or Spartans.

        Great breakdown!

It has been a whirlwind season in Div 1 Men. Results have shown that any team can beat another team on any given night which makes for a great competition.

Would probably say that BQ got it right for once having the 2 divisions and it has made it a better comp getting to play each team twice. Only suggestion/gripe would be to get the QBL/SBL schedules better so that each team has its strongest teams when they play.

Will be interesting to see what they will do next year ie the 8 teams:

Do the bottom 2 teams get challenged or what could be another way to do it?

Would the top 2 teams in Div 2 compete in Div 1. Might have said yes halfway through particularly with the GC but they came on to beat the top 2 teams and with the way they are playing would probably knock off Seahawks and Phoenix Heat if they were challenged, same to be said for whoever finishes 7th.

Looking at each team going into the playoffs:

        1. Wiz - Always the favourites due to continuity plus they do not have a QBL team so they have the whole squad for the whole season and some good quality QBL talent playing in that team.

        2. Caps - Strong out the gate, VDogg went for the Golden State Offence with shooting the 3 but after they lost to the GC it might have exposed them a little for other teams to be able to adjust to that style of play.

        3. Spartans - Dark horse for the finals in my opinion. When they have had their full strength team with QBL players they have looked very strong and unlucky not to be in second place after this weekend.

        4. Logan - Similar to Spartans, up and down season but when they have their full squad they can match anyone.

        5. Pirates - Good young squad with not a lot of QBL talent but that helped cause an up and down season.

        6. Rip - limping into the playoffs and haven't been helped by the QBL schedule at all. When full strength and healthy they can be a top 2 team (losing Flip was a massive blow) but might find it hard in the finals depending on how their QBL program go.

        7. GC - left their run a little to late but beating the Top 2 teams on their home courts showed the potential. This was a brand new team from the previous seasons so was always going to take time to develop.

        8. Clippers - without having the likes of Hooper and Ward for the full season and Robeteau and Johansen coming in for their 4-5 games and leaving meant that like GC it was a new team with a new coach but were competitive in most games. Could still make the finals but a big weekend coming up.

Who in Wizards is QBL caliber ?
other teams had QBL players play down to compete yet wizards have stuck with a core group for years and shown results via hard work. Wizards have no star players!

      Div 2 this weekend

      Saturday 27th July
      Spartans @ Ipswich
      Seahawks @ South West
      Toowoomba @ Caloundra

      Sunday 28th July
      South West @ Rip
      Ipswich @ Noosa
      Redlands @ Northside

The top 6 is already settled with everybody in this bracket locked in for a spot somewhere.

      Ladder
      Seahawks 11/2
      Caloundra 10/3
      Redlands 10/3
      Wizards 8/5
      Ipswich 7/5
      Toowoomba 7/6

      My thoughts:

      - Seahawks in box seat for top spot, shouldn't lose to South West and will get a first round bye

      - I think it's likely Caloundra finishes 2nd. I'd consider it likely they beat Toowoomba. If Redlands happens to beat Wizards (this will be tight) then Caloundra owns the tie-breaker by a single point

      - Regardless of Ippy's results and others, they're going to be stuck with either 4th/5th and will play Wizards in playoffs. Ipswich has Toowoomba on H2H.

There is potential for an upset to occur as always, but if results go as expected:

      Bye - Seahawks / Caloundra
      3 v 6 - Redlands v Toowoomba
      4 v 5 - Wizards v Ipswich

      Good luck everyone.

My understanding is games won/lost between each is the first gauge

So it would be Caloundra 2/0, Redlands, Seahawks

Sorry, it Doesn’t look like you play each other the same amount of times. Just looked at Seahawks and they play Redlands twice and Heat once. If that’s right BQ must have an idea because I don’t. Could only be percentages over whole season I think. Probably wrong though.

Caps lost to GC again (Div 1). Lucky they donít have to meet them in the Semi Finals! Caps are limping into the playoffs and GC unfortunate they left their run to late.

Typical armchair coach, GC turned around their season and affected some of the placings. Like the previous comment, most teams are glad they didn’t make it so they don’t have to play them.

On another note, has the top 6 been set yet?

Right, yeah GC turning their season around had nothing to do with Jaze Morris playing. LOL.
It was all coaching and system I'm sure. Not trying to disrespect the coaching at all, just laughing at the armchair coaches on here talking junk about the whole League being scared of GC.

          What's everyone's tips for Div 1 Men?

          QF
          Spartans over Pirates
          Rip over Logan

          SF
Wizards over Spartans - hard to pick this one as consider this to be the GF but would go with Wizards on home court. Spartans playing very well.
Rip over Caps - Rip will have momentum and unfortunately Caps have stumbled into the playoffs coming off a few losses but will have home court and a week off

          GF
Wizards over Rip - should be a close game but Wizards have the home court and experience, Rip missing Flip is a huge loss.

For the record, GC supporter so no bias towards any team!! lol

You got the first round right, Pirates were up by 10 and gave that one away and Rip down a few players in a close one.

Match of the round next week will be Wizards/Spartans.

Any comments on MVP for the season, hasn't really been anyone that has stood out on a regular basis. Most squads have lots of changes in rosters and/or injuries affected a lot of players.
