looking at the scores each week, nobody is playing defence right now in either of the divisions.

they just let south west score 80+ on them

i dont need to watch northside to see their boxscores and the boxscores for all the other teams in both divisions.

No games this weekend. Here's my 5 talking points from Round 4.

1. Caps remain undefeated and get Logan (previously undefeated) by 9. Both teams looked like they were full strength. (D1)

2. Also undefeated, Northside at 3-0. They're at home to the Caps when play resumes next weekend. (D1)

3. Spartans get Maroochy by a point, leaving the Clips still winless. (D1)

4. Seahawks continue plugging along, 5-0 after a 30+ win against Spartans. Early GF favourites for sure. (D2)

5. Not to be forgotten, Redlands also undefeated at 6-0. 4-point away win against the Rip, followed a surprise 28-point spanking of Caboolture the following day. (D2)

I think he was talking about his coaching career there

Last time the caps coach (men's team coached sbl) he won the championship with an undefeated season pretty sure that wasn't a failed season

Gold Coast are rubbish if d1. They won’t win a game. Goes to show the coach didn’t lead rip to that championship. Just had a stacked team

yeah it's only the coaches & ex coaches that talk on here. most of the SBL players aren't old enough or smart enough to work out how to write on here.

Then if that’s true, the coaches writing some of this trash aren’t smart enough either. But I honestly don’t think any of the coaches I know wouldnt get involved.
I’d me more inclined to think it’s players or parents or ex club members with an axe to grind.

I actually think that Caps should have won by more, but the rotations that the Brisbane coach used were bizarre. I think Rip, Logan, Caps and Northside all have a shot though.

Was Logan missing players?? Rip were missing 2 of their starters playing QBL and still had a big win.

Logan were missing thompson and lassey.
Showed how important they are to there squad.
They struggled without those guys. But rip were missing Glover, o’Toole and cordwell. Still looked pretty good for most the game. Hopefully next game they can match up full strength

What's happened to Goldie this season? Will they be challenged in a crossover?

Lost nearly the whole team from last season. Whole starting 5 gone (with Morris just playing in the last 2 games). Not of lot of local juniors in either the SBL or QBL sides so it is going to be a rebuilding year (maybe 2) until they can get some players developing and coming through.

A bit different this year with having two divisions as well, GC could probably beat most of the Div 2 teams but all the teams in Div 1 are good (with Caps and Wizards being really good) and most of those squads have been together for a few seasons.

Teams 3-8 are all only seperated by a few wins each. Any team could win 3-4 in a row and move up to 3rd.

BQ have 6/8 teams making the finals so will be tough for the 2 that don't make it and all head to head match ups have even more importance now for position in the playoffs.

** games to watch **

1. Wiz @ Maroochy (D1) - is this the replay game? Either way, scores were tied last time these two played and the game was called off after halftime. Wizards are rolling, be interesting to see if Maroochy can get close again.

2. Spartans @ Wiz (D2) - second Wizards team is going ok and both teams are close on the ladder.

3. Caboolture @ Toowomba (D2) - interesting mainly as these two sit at 7th and 8th. Big setback for either's playoff hopes with a loss.


** talking points from Round 6 **

1. Caloundra get their season back on track with two wins, without Hayden Reed. Sit 4 & 2. Win against Rip was expected, the spanking of Ipswich not so much. (D2)

2. Noosa collect their second win with a solid home victory against Caboolture. Many thought they may go winless. They seem to be improving week by week.

3. High flying Seahawks visit Ippy and escape with a three point win. Still considered favourites for now, but seem to have come back to the pack a little over the last few weeks. (D2)

4. Wizards spank Rip by 20. The deficit was a surprise. Possibly the biggest margin between these two fierce rivals in the last few seasons? (D1)

5. Spartans gaining momentum, move to 4 & 2 after a comfortable win over Logan who were again missing Thompson and Lassey. (D1)

Did BQ get it right splitting the two divisions? Would any of the Div 2 teams beat the Div 1 teams if both are at full strength?

Think they got it right in that by having a Div 2 you have more teams which gives more players an opportunity to play which would assume is the main focus.
Would be great if more teams (Gold Coast, had two teams and this might help with the comp but it is good that all the teams in Div 1 get to play each other twice and the Div 1 comp is very strong with only 8 teams (GC can't even get a win)
In saying that I do think that it would be hard for a Div 2 team to beat a Div 1 team full strength but maybe they should do like BQJBC and halfway through the season do a crossover for the bottom 2 Div 1 and the top 2 Div 2 and the winner stays in Div 1.
Will be interesting to see what BQ do at the end of this season for Div 1 as well. How do teams get up into Div 1, do they do a grading to start the season with the bottom 4 Div 1 and top 4 Div 2 from the previous season?
Haven't seen to many Div 2 games but most of the Div 1's that Ive seen have been fun to watch and a good quality.

I think the D1/D2 splits for this season are pretty good.

Gold Coast and South West are being soundly beaten, but they deserve to be there and few people would've predicted the gap between these teams and the rest. Personally don't think anyone from D2 deserves to be in their place right now.

What happens next season. Is their a relegation system in place where D1 bottom two and D2 top two switch places etc? Or does each team just apply for the division they feel best suited to?

On divisions, the ladies competition NEEDS to be split in 2020. Far too much disparity right now with the good teams flogging the rest. Makes sense to follow the men's lead and give the D1 talent solid games week in week out, with D2 teams playing at their own level.

Agee but To have a strong d1 comp BQ have to make sure there are not impossible clashes with QBL. For the teams with both it is the pathway and the teams can be vastly different if their best are not available.

I don't think there are any games this week that are worth close attention.

From D1, Logan @ Maroochy. 5th vs 6th, should be the closest match.

D2, you might look at the Wizards playing at Spartans. Wiz are playing real well as a young second team.


** talking points from Round 6 **

1. Caloundra continues to roll. Without arguably best player in Pleysier, they pip league leader Redlands by a point playing away. Back it up with an expected win against South West the following day. Caloundra are putting teams on notice, have a soft draw heading home and could very well be on top by end of regular season. 2. Seahawks just get by Ipswich, again, for the second week in a row. Unlucky fixturing for Ipswich, who also have Redlands twice. (D2)

3. Wizards spank Logan (with Lassey/Thompson) then Maroochy. They especially did a real job on Logan, holding Lassey and Thompson to 7 and 8 points respectively. Caps vs Wiz GF seems inevitable, respectfully does any other team have a chance? (D1)

Wizards/Spartans Div 1 should be good. Spartans are playing well and have played Wizards already so should be a good rematch.

Fair call given position on ladder. Spartans playing well but I don't think their resume so far would lead anyone to think it will be a close result. Am expecting Wizards by 20+.

No unless the sport has changed I’m pretty sure there is a winner and loser every game not just a loser. All I’m saying is it wasn’t caps best game of basketball they’ve played this season

So GC didn’t make them play bad, and GC played well. It was just Caps playing bad.
GC cracked the code, Rip will beat them next week. It’s not how you start the season....

Also agree with comments that have been made about Flip playing QBL. Should've started getting a fair run in first grade a long time ago.

Agree aswell Flip is a qbl quality player and should have been playing there for the last few seasons. If it is true speedy recovery flip rip will miss you.
