Predictions from seeing a few preseason games (and knowing they are preseason!)

    1. Wizards (same team, same coach, same result)
    2. Rip (same team, same coach, only just lost SF)
    3. Brisbane (new coach, always have depth)
    4. Maroochydore (new coach, no Johansen and Robateau to bail them out mid season though)
    5. Spartans (havenít seen or heard anything)
    6. Gold Coast (new team, new coach, rebuilding year)
    7. Southwest (young and athletic, lack of experience may hurt)
    8. Logan (lack of size and a ďstar playerĒ may give them the wooden spoon)

Of course this goes right out the window when the season starts but good to start the chat and see what everyone else thinks.

Will be a closer comp with only 8 teams.
Wiz will be the benchmark having won it last year and my sleeper will be GC. Even though a new team and coach, if they can put it together as a team then they could make some noise. Their new coach won it with Rip 2 years ago so only team to upset Wizards in the last 3 years.
Don’t think Robateau has as much influence as Jonno so the rest of the team needs to step up.

Whatever, can’t wait for the season (and QBL) to start!!

Maroochy no chance without Jonno. Even if Darnell comes back at some point, the rest of the roster to compete with the better teams isn't there. Bottom two for these dudes.

Maroochydore roster will be virtually the same as last year by mid-season.

Gc will be in the bottom 3 teams this year. That team is very weak without Jaze, Whitby and their post from last season in it, you are kidding yourself if you think anything different. Rip beat wiz last year so youíre so called super coach isnít the only team to beat wiz in the last 3 seasons. Wiz, Rip and Caps are my picks for the season. Wiz and Rip returning most players and both play very structured games. Caps are a young, fast run and gun team and if they are hitting shots will be tough to handle.

Yes they did, but if you had a brain you would realise they played each other during the season and Rip beat them. That’s not the point, the point is your superstar GC coach is not the only guy to coach a win against Wiz in the past 3 years and let’s see how he does when he doesn’t have the talent he has had at Rip. Good luck to all teams this season it will be a tough season to call.

GC ROLLERS SBL IS WINNING IT ALL THIS YEAR, new additions of QBL level players and a talent ridden team full of certified bucket getters, youíd be absolutely silly to count them out this year.

Wait till halfway through the season in 7 weeks. The great thing about this season is that everyone plays twice.
The league is going to be very, very close. 6/8 teams make the playoffs so the real race is not to come 7/8.
After that anyone can win in the finals.

    Round 2

    Div 1

    Saturday 4th May
    Wizards @ Maroochy
    Caps @ South West

    Sunday 5th May
    Rip @ Spartans
    GC @ Logan

    Div 2

    Saturday 4th May
    Noosa @ Seahawks
    Ipswich @ Caloundra
    Caboolture @ South West
    Wizards @ Redlands

    Sunday 5th May
    Seahawks @ Spartans
    South West @ Toowoomba

So much better having two men's divisions - the first round in each was far more competitive amongst teams than the last couple years. Really want to see a women's D2 next year. Here' five things that stood out to me from Round 1

1 - Caps beating Rip by 10. Good win for the Caps as the Rip as always up there. (D1)

2 - Logan account for Maroochy by 6. Logan will always be good when they have their QBL benchies on board. Jared Thompson is a player. Maroochy a fair effort and looks like they will be ok. Who knows if they have anyone to come in and if it will be too late by the time they do. (D1)

3 - Wizards back with much of the same champ squad, dispose of Spartans by 30. Going to be a lean season for the Spartans unless they jag some QBL players occasionally.

    4 - Redlands with a solid 6 point win at Ipswich. (D2)

5 - Caloundra opens up their SBL account with a 28 point win, although against a Noosa team that isn't as rounded as past seasons. (D2)

not much of an impressive win by Caloundra, Noosa is an un20s team of the 5 coaches sons and their mates

Spartans will have QBL guys playing for them regularly and will make top 4 with the talent they have coming in

Clippers will be relegated to Div 2 next season along with Noosa & Caloundra will move up.

Wizards won't make the grand final this year, lost a bit of talent that saved them a few times last year

Who do you think will be in the GF in Div 1 if Wizards don’t make it? With only 8 teams will be interesting.
      Should make it all 8 teams play finals, 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc.

if it's top 6 for both then i'd say Spartans and flip a coin between south west/maroochy to miss the finals this year

If you gonna do top 6 why not just do all 8 and make it 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 for the quarters, winners for the semis and then winners for the GF. Still goes over 3 weeks. Instead they will give the top 2 a week off and they do nothing.

Soooooo when Maroochy upgraded their stadium, they forgot to waterproof the roof? Standard Maroochy.

So there is not another thousand responses about the roof. There was no leak. The roof did not leak. For some reason, first time in 25 years, the humidity caused an issue, Court 3 was worse. The main court was pretty much fine but a problem with the painted areas. So again, you can all stop about the roof

The draw was finalised nearly 2 months ago, pretty unrealistic to think it would be given a total revamp in short notice.

Yes that makes sense for week 1 when they were scheduled to play toowoomba. However, there aren’t any bye rounds so unsure as to why no games for them over this weekend as well?

Didnt say they were playing to potential, its basically a brand new team so it will take time. Everyone is looking at them like they are the team from the last few years. You are right, they have to much talent, when it gels, they will be in the finals and with 6/8 teams making it anyone can win. It is a long season and everyone plays each other twice so will be interesting to see if there is improvement the second time each team plays.

    Round 2

    Div 1

    Saturday 11th May
    Rip @ Maroochy
    Gold Coast @ South West

    Sunday 12th May
    Logan @ South West
    Wizards @ Gold Coast
    Caps @ Spartans

    Div 2

    Saturday 11th May
    Toowoomba @ Ipswich
    Rip @ Noosa
    Wizards @ Caloundra
    Caboolture @ Seahawks
    Redlands @ South West

    Sunday 12th May
    Spartans @ Redlands

    Five things from Round 2

1 - After being called off with scores tied, what happens to the Wiz/Maroochy result? (D1) And assuming Ipswich gets the points over Caloundra? (D2)

2 - Caps continue their decent start and maul South West (D1)

3 - Spartans upset Rip. Also a 9am Sunday tipoff is shit. (D1)

4 - Seahawks win big twice and would be considered early favourites. FYI only two other unbeatens in Cabbo and Redlands. (D2)

5 - Gold Coast smacked again, this time by Logan. (D1)

    Round 3

    Div 1

    Saturday 11th May
Rip @ Maroochy - Clips in a close one
Gold Coast @ South West - SW by 7

    Sunday 12th May
Logan @ South West logan by a lot
Wizards @ Gold Coast - Wiz by 100
Caps @ Spartans Caps in a close one

    Div 2

    Saturday 11th May
    Toowoomba @ Ipswich - ippy by 23
Rip @ Noosa- rip by 13
    Wizards @ Caloundra - caloundra by 10
Caboolture @ Seahawks seahawks by 6
Redlands @ South West redlands by 34

    Sunday 12th May
Spartans @ Redlands redlands by 12

    - Rip losing 3 in a row would usually be a disaster but with top 6 making Finals they could lose the 1st half of the season and still probably make it
    - are any of the Spartans guys playing QBL? it sounds like their QBL team sucks so maybe they are concentrating on winning SBL this year instead
    - Caps v Spartans looks like game of the round, whoever wins that one will be early favourites given how average RIP, Clips & Wiz are looking so far this season.

Hopefully next year BQ conduct a grading day for the menís similar to PL grading in the juniors. SBL rosters change too much year to year to simply go by the previous yearís results. Divisions are a great thing, but have to work them out right.

the 1st year was always going to leave some teams in the wrong pool.. e.g. Noosa teams of the past few years would have won Div 2 by 100 but the Noosa un18 team they have at the moment makes sense for Div 2

Noosa teams of past years have never won a game by 100. Noosa is a 20 -30% win team.
