Anything happening here yet? Probably first things are a few coaching changes?
Maroochydore losing Vern to QBL, McGlynn back for Rip, GC looking for a new coach, TG staying at Toowoomba
Any other changes known at this stage?

Any truth to the rumour that Caloundra will entering into the SBL this year giving 4 teams on the Sunshine Coast. The good thing is that as a development league there will be plenty of spots for players on the Coast to play, hopefully it doesn't dilute the strength of the other teams on the Coast.

Dilute the players on the coast? Mdore played in the gf and rip were knocked out in the semis by 1. Think the coast is pretty strong right now.

Probably most of the “bigger” clubs could field 2 SBL teams. Would be great to have a Div 2 comp.
Im sure BQ wouldn’t say no the revenue;-) and if done properly with the draw wouldn’t put too much more strain on volunteers.

where would you have made the split? Noosa finished 11th, beat ippy by 12, lost to wizards 1 in OT by 2, lost to swm by 3, lost to gc by 6. yes they had some big losses too, but the results i listed show they were competitive enough to have a legit claim to be in a first div comp. so does your div 2 mean you have 4 teams?
maybe not as easy as you think
-
Maybe make it 8 and 8, take the top 8 from last year for Div 1 and take the rest and make it Div 2? Then have a challenge round like BQJBC and the bottom 2 from Div 1 and Top 2 from Div 2 could play to stay in Div 1.
No matter what you do there will be teams that think they should be in Div 1, but you need to start from somewhere so maybe starting like that could work for Year 1.
Its a great problem to have with some clubs being able to field 2 teams, good for pathways and development.

If (when?) the competition goes to two divisions, I’d suspect most nominations would be self-regulating so that teams play at the level they’re suited to. If needed, BQ could always step in and make amendments as required based on a team’s previous results. Sensible rule would be that no association would have two teams in the same division.
Now is the time to do it. Hearing a few associations are considering second teams, and smaller associations would benefit from the choice also.

What the hell?? Why not just get one more and make 2 divisions with 10 teams each.
Surely BQ won’t knock back the revenue.
If they leave it all one division then either some teams won’t play each other due to lack of time or there will be a lot of double header games.
When is the draw out??
-
Heard Maroochy putting two teams in and Caloundra entering a team also. This was a month ago so not sure if legit still.
-
There are going to be 2 divisions, Rip has 2 teams as well. Caloundra are in. They released a draw and then recalled it to add second Rip team. Should be out in a few days. Great proactiveness from BQ to make it happen.
The more teams means more games for development players which is great.

Fixtures now available on line.
Mens D1/D2 split looks fair enough.
Women is one div made up of 14 teams. Given the parity of the best and lower teams there really needs to be two divs, guessing the feeling was that 14 teams is too awkward. 8 in D1 and 6 in D2 may have worked though.

Any word on SBL squads? Predicting Wizards v Rip in the GF. Most of the GC team are gone and Maroochydore won’t have Jansen or Robateau to save them.

I'd say they saw the loss to Rip (giving away who is their team lol).Typical one eyed Rip supporters who don't know basketball. I saw the Phoenix game and GC will be strong and deep, won't rely on just one player this year. Their coach was foxing against his old club, hardest part for him now is picking a team with all that talent.

Lost to a rip team who only had 7 of there squad.
They had 3 decent players but wouldn’t go much further than that

Div 1 - will be a good comp, with everyone getting a chop at each other twice will make it even more interesting to see how consistent teams are home and away, some of the clubs with 2 teams like SW maybe stretching their talent out a little too much to be Finals competitive in Div 1 this year but good on them for developing more talent in their clubs.
Div 2 - if the top 5 isn't Ipswich, Redlands, Seahawks, Toowoomba and Caboolture or worse one of those teams don't win that comp against the 2nd or 3rd teams of everyone else with some of them having an average age of 13 years old and at least one teams coaching stuff just being dads who took the job so their son could make the team. it might be time to hung up the boots and take up lawn bowls..

Agree about Div 1, great opportunities for teams to play each other twice makes it a better comp.
With Div 2, at least it’s a start. Agree a team from last year should win it but a lot of clubs do have enough for 2 teams so hopefully this will grow.
-
i like the divisions idea but a bunch of SBL teams have been super consistent ie Wiz & Rip at the top & Red & Ippy at the bottom but other teams have been good and bad depending on the year and sometimes just depending on the weekend. i haven't seen the comp rules so i'm not sure if they have anything in place for teams to apply to go up or down between the 2 but there definitely needs to be something in there that lets a team nominate for whichever comp they think they will be competitive in each season.
