NBN podcast says Ipswich and Rip women's coach jobs open. Rip not a surprise but Ipswich? Is George being forced to reapply or has he stood aside? Hard to see anyone else recruiting as good a team there.

Fair enough, but they still did though so wouldn't you think that would give him the opportunity to get another chance?

The men's coach has been bounced twice in the first round back to back and still getting another go and if every coach was sacked for an underperforming roster we would see much more coaching changes each year.

I just think that he was a young coach that can obviously recruit well but he improved both seasons and made a finals so he must be ok?

Think the argument you’re missing is that Rip ladies have underperformed given their rosters and that an 8th seed shouldn’t be a ‘get out of jail’ card to give someone another go.

No probs with Arousi getting another shot. Men’s Como far more competitive and hes done better with stock he’s had imo.

Agree that the roster was solid but it was rarely on the court together with national commitments with a few key players so considering that to make the finals with a rotating roster so to speak must carry some credence?

Men's coach has had the same opportunity to pick his squads and each time has been bounced out in the first round playing his style and his squad, wouldnt say the mens comp is that more competitive, maybe in the top 6 but after that similar to the women with lower clubs making up spots.

In saying that any team was going to do it hard to beat Caps and Spartan Ladies this season.

I see where you are coming from with your comments, arguments can be made for and against with each coaching position. I am sure that some club politics come into it as well.

Assume that Ipswich is out of NBL1 ? What a shame I thought they were doing good things as a club.

WASBL just introduced this top 8 playoffs system, same as NRL/AFL. Like it, don’t see why it wouldn’t work for us. Like that higher seeded teams can get a second chance if they lose first week. More competitive games in first week too.

The West Australian State Basketball League (SBL) has today announced the introduction of a revised finals model for the 2020 Season.

Through consultation with all 14 SBL association representatives, a revised finals model was accepted and passed by the SBL Commission for introduction to the 2020 Season.

The 'top 8 model', which is identical to that of the AFL and the NBL1 format, will see the teams who finish in top 4 positions, receive a double chance to progress in the finals, making the regular season more competitive than ever.

The 2020 SBL finals will be played across a 4-week period with the revised concept shortening the finals schedule by one week. The top 4 teams who win the first week Qualifying Final must navigate a bye throughout week 2 before hosting a Preliminary Final in week 3.

Six of the top 8 teams will be guaranteed to host at least one finals game with the top 2 teams guaranteed to host two games.

To ensure maximum opportunity for supporters to attend, the SBL Grand Finals will remain on the John Gardiner Show Court at the Bendat Basketball Centre which seats over 2,500 spectators.

The 2020 SBL Season will commence in March with the Grand Finals scheduled on August 28 and 29.

Jason borg said he is “95% he will not be coaching the meteors this season, but will be on the bench?” I’m guessing only 2 things could happen.

1, A return of a FORMER coach and who always the front runner to take over Rebetzke old job!

      OR

      2, nothing will happen

Just an uneducated comment. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water. South West are a great club with strong numbers and sponsorship. Just because they don't bring in a title, and missed the playoffs a couple of years you think they're shutting down? That's just embarrassing to even think that let alone say it!

South West are actually one of 3 South Clubs who've won a title in the last 20 years, and have significantly grown their club.

They will find the right people moving forward and be fine.

          Uneducated how?

Since moving to Hibiscus - senior numbers at South West haven't been poorer. Support at QBL games hasn't been poorer. Imports aside, core playing groups for each QBL team haven't been poorer.

Nobody cares if they've won a title in the last twenty years. I'm wondering how things get better with the QBL program and why sponsors and the association itself should keep pouring money in to a losing prospect. Like literally what are the reasons?

Uneducated that you position the goal posts on championships as success! A South Team just won a title for the first time since 2006! So by your uneducated logic and unattainable standard most of the South should close their doors and shut up shop.

South West has over 35 Club teams just in the u18 age group! Their junior numbers are through the roof and their catchment area is tiny in comparison to Logan, Capitals, Wizards, Gold Coast Etc! There are plenty of elements where the club is flying!

A successful QBL program should have a decent game night, have a competitive team and have a solid sponsorship base. South West have more sponsors than many of the South teams, they had an exciting team with players like the Bairstows and their imports who could play above the rim. They also have some actual South West juniors who play minutes. Something plenty of clubs don't have.

If you're going to set the goal posts at "They aren't winning championships so sponsors should walk, and then quit" then you'll never be happy. It's about showing your juniors a top league for them to aspire to. The QBL is the most talented league in the nation on paper (whether it's well run or not is another argument) and it's not just about the talent on display from the home team. Just being in the league means your juniors get a chance to look at Todd Blanchfield, Alex Loughton, Shaun Bruce, Harry Froling types, and a bunch of high flying imports.

We live in w world where people can jump on their keyboards and paint a situation far worse than it really is. Are they where they want to be? Hell no! But what you're talking about is nonsense.

NBL wants to take over QBL as NBL1 North. Surely they would do a far better job looking after the comp than BQ.

Nbl 1 , two imports , 20 minutes in the nbl or under means unrestricted as opposed to the qbls 12 minutes no points system for players as their will be national finals. Nbl 1 will provide the stream each association will provide the camera work and two commentators must be adhered too or fines will apply ( may sort out a few associations ) Current conflicting sponsors to the hungry jacks ie maccas have three years before there branding will not be allowed to be advertised etc etc

QSL sounds a good 2nd tier option but NBL1 clubs can hardly play game nights with 4 games let alone how all the northern costs for travel is handled and who pays for it.

Who honestly can say. Yep going into QSL is a positive thing. Players will leave clubs in droves for an opportunity to play NBL1.
Interesting point to consider is players that were playing QBL and getting paid previously will be under new contract pressure with clubs having more options particularly in the South and now having to fork up the extra 25 grand for a Northern or Southwrn road trip.
