  • QBL 2018 - Round 11

    Friday
    South West @ Logan
    Rocky @ Spartans

    Saturday
    Toowoomba @ Caps
    Rocky @ Seahawks
    Gold Coast @ Rip
    Ipswich @ Gladstone
    Townsville @ Mackay

    Sunday
    Rocky @ Caps

My three takeaways from Round 10:

    1. The Rollers hit rock bottom after dropping to Toowoomba on Friday night then suffer the indignity of gifting the Seahawks their first ever QBL victory the following evening. They will need to finish the season 5-1 to have a fighting chance of making the playoffs. A bunch of totally winnable games but they would have few optimists on their side at this point.

    2. No talk at all, but the lowly Spartans accounted for the Rip in a post-to-post W. Rip had previously lost only one match, will likely be a costly defeat with regards to finishing #1 seed.

    3. Cairns steal an away win against Mackay. Even without Trigger, that is still a good result for the Marlins.

A handful of excellent matches this weekend, none better than Townsville travelling to Macktown in a top of the table clash. Logan will be looking to exact revenge on the Pirates, who easily dusted them a few weeks back. Caps/Rocky on Sunday should be a good watch also.

    Friday
    South West @ Logan
This should be a good game. Logan will be too good at home.

    Rocky @ Spartans
Looks like Rocky have been delayed getting into Brisbane and may be heading straight to the game.
Spartans with the upset due to this.

    Saturday
    Toowoomba @ Caps
Battle for the 8th spot here. Caps to win at home

    Rocky @ Seahawks
Congrats to Seahawks for getting their first W. Rocky with too much talent however and will win

    Gold Coast @ Rip
Gold Coast brought back to earth last week however match up well with the Rip. Gold Coast with the upset.

    Ipswich @ Gladstone
Tough trip for Ipswich for only the one game. Gladstone at home

    Townsville @ Mackay
Easily game of the round. Mackay will be hurting after last weeks effort v Cairns. Flip a coin, Townsville to make it a 1-1 series

    Sunday
    Rocky @ Caps
Caps with a home double (what's with all the home double headers this year?)
Rocky only going 7 deep on the 3rd game will struggle to keep with the Caps pace. Caps by single figures

McAllister was in a moon boot on the weekend, not sure it has anything to do with the points cap

have caps been dealt the same punishment or do they get away with it?

Seahawks men a new team under Adam Tyrus. Knock off Rocky last night to go to 2-1 under the new coach.

Bernard shot 12/31 and 2/12 from deep, don't think the Seahawks defence was an issue given Rocky couldn't even manage 80 points as a team.

Totally understand they were undermanned and on game 2/3, but not claiming to be world beaters, just a new team, which they certainly are. You can tell as much in warmups before a single ball is bounced.

Rockets having no bench explains it more. Shows what happens when you rely heavily on your starting five and one misses a game.

Well Iím waiting for the mackay fans on this page to say meteors favourites again?
But I would agree this time, surely they are top favourites to win, such a balanced team and great bench too.

The fact Macalister is in a moon boot is irrelevant! It's actually a nice little cover for the fact that if they play their full team they have been advised they will be stripped of points. His injury means the other guys play on business as usual, but they will still need to either cut a restricted player or a couple of bench guys. Don't let the injury and couple of losses blind you, they've been informed they must make a change!

is it the same for the caps?

        • #13
Is there proof they need to make a change ?

Have Gladstone and Brisbane been advised the same ? I highly doubt it.

It's a genuine injury and BQ have cleared the Caps by changing the rules mid-season. Gladstone still suck.

So BQ can now make changes to their own rules mid season?

          • #15
If being issued a statement in writing from Basketball QLD that you have 7 days to shed points from your cap, to continue to compete without penalty isn't proof I don't know what is. Macalister injury just buys them some time to decide on who it is. As they won't get stripped of points while he's off the floor. It will be when he comes back that they'll need to shed a couple of players. I'm not saying the injury is fake, but it's perfectly timed. A couple of losses aren't too bad either cause there's less talk about a team being over the cap when they're not on top of the ladder. Either way BQ has drawn a line in the sand.

The funny thing is BQ started this, Rip applied for Tueta to be 2 points and BQ agreed. Then everyone else has caused a stink and BQ doesn’t know what to do.
It’s on the Comp manager for allowing it at the start.
You can’t penalise a team after you’ve approved it can you?
