How about some transparency from the league and send to the clubs all the points from last weekends games?
If they have done their homework it’s all already done.
Just send it out or post on the website to give the fans that pay good money to go and watch the knowledge they didn’t just get cheated.

Can someone explain the Caps playing over pointed players and not receiving a forfeit from BQ from the weekend's game?
    Carter - 2 ( SW Junior )
    Wilson - 1
    Anderson - 12 ( Import )
    Davis - 12 ( Import )
    Conrad - 5 ( NBL Unrestricted )
    Lam - 1
    Kahler - 3 ( Europe )
    Kopcikas - 2
    Davis - 0.5
    Windsor - 0.5
    Soong - 0.5
    Leaney - 0.5

That's 40 points for 12 players should be at 35 for 12 players.
    Not 38 for 15 players

If i was from Spartans i would appeal the result of the game.
    Someone's cheating.

This must be purely a financial decision based on the revenue Caps produce. Money talks sorry everyone else the biggest budget wins

      Did they rerate Carter also?
      He’s a 2 point player not a 1 point player as per BQ’s lists
      Double cheating allowed

The rule is 38 points for your 15 person squad, does not matter who you suit up in a game. Technically you could have your 12 players add up to 36.5

  • #18
If that’s true the CEO needs to hang his head in shame. How is this decision in the best interest of the league? Just another handout to the cashed up caps. Also doesn’t explain why they’ve pointed Carter as a 1? Over 24 & a south west junior?? Just another freebie?
and Gladstone double dipping? Meaning BQ got their points wrong as well.....

Gladstone double dip is using 2 points discounts when you can only use 1 by the rules. Say a player is an u18 junior their points are halved by 50%. Or if a player has played 100 games at a club their points are halved by 50%. The rule clearly says that you can't have 2 dedications of 50%, only 1. Gladstone have done the double on one of their players in order to fit others in.

In all honesty the point system is a fast and should be scrapped anyways.
has it really stopped teams from stacking up?
    I dont think so.
It has shown big budget teams can get best local talent which isnt what the point system was intended to do.
The point system was to help foster and develop a pathway for juniors but in a lot of cases 10 juniors are used to make up 5pts 10 x 0.5 in order to have a core 10 make up the 35 points and will never suit up let alone play on the qbl.
Scrap the points and go back to just playing.

Agreed. Have BQ been made aware other than the comps manager? Someone who can actually make the right decision to rectify the glaring error that’s been made

I think you'll see legal action taken. While BQ seem to sign off on these things like they're nothing, it's actually big money to the affected clubs. The points system was brought in to keep an even playing field. And needs hard and fast rules. If a rule needs to be changed it should be done after or before the season commences. To make it up on the fly is never ok.

You all know nothing will happen, the muppet who runs the joint is too busy telling everyone how good an administrator he is. They'll stick their heads in the sand and do a Corporal Shultz. "I know nothing".

Soooooo Mr BQ Comps Manager, Lisa Brennan played her 100th game for the Townsville Flames on the weekend just gone. Does she automatically get the 50% deduction now ?

The BQ comps manager didn’t do their homework & has made several errors. The rest is damage mitigation from BQ CEO/lawyers.
The theme of the email is, just because we’ve applied the rules differently for the first time since the points cap was introduced, doesn’t mean we’re wrong as the rules aren’t explicit in certain areas so we can get away with this. So screw the previous 5 years of precedents that have been set. If the rules can be changed in season at the drop of a hat how can clubs have faith in a fair playing field? How many more new rules have been applied that clubs are yet to be made aware of?

If this was a league with a shred of credibility and Integrity the comps manager would be sacked. I imagine they are praying it doesn't hit the local media outlets up the east coast. It's probably only a matter of time though.

Yes, by their admission Lisa Brennan should’ve also been given a 50% reduction prior to the season start even though she may have gotten injured after 2 games without even reaching 100 games! Smart logic BQ.

You could be BQ comps manager with that kind of logic. Player X from Team 2 doesn't play in a win against Team 4.
"Strip Team 2 of the win because the ineligible player didn't play!"

Maybe you have just had to play 100 games or be a jr in any sunny coast club to be eligible for the discount.

He’s a maroochy junior and rip have only been in qbl for 3 seasons so have played no where near 100 games.
No justification whatsoever just incompetence and disregard for rules or a fair competition.

Rip got certification before the QBL season from BQ that he would only be 2. If BQ approves it, how is it the club's fault. They are in a tough position anyway because they dont have any juniors seeing as the club is only 8 years old. They have a very short rotation due to point system. Last year they only had one import due to Izzy being 5 points. This year with the reduction they were able to get a second import.

So just wonder what happens now? Can clubs now go and stack their team knowing there is no punishment for going over the points cap. Could be interesting run to the finals.

Brisbane only played 98 games from 2013 to 2017 inclusive! Come clean and say you re rated Kopcikas mid season after surpassing the 100 mark. The hole is nearly to China!

Innocent until proven guilty. I believe Jeff and Micky Torrent to be extremely respectful and honourable people, how dare you all accuse them of corrupt play. Just because your associations are unable to manage a roster like these two great man managers. Haters gonna hate and potatoes are gonna potat You bunch of spuds. LOL!

Right now a team could ask BQ to clear a player like Tom Garlep, and go clearly over the cap and BQ would have no choice but to let him be cleared! If they stopped it they would open themselves up to serious legal action.

Right now there is no less than 3 teams currently playing over the cap

            Brisbane Capitals
            Gladstone Power
            Sunshine Coast RIP

The stance that should of been taken by BQ is that they promptly inform these clubs how much they are over, and they must get under the cap in order to compete this weekend. Mistakes happen at the BQ end that's fine, but to do nothing and then make up lies to the clubs is a sackable offence. To say Kopcikas should of been a 1 point player to start the season is a lie! He had played 98 games. Brisbane are over!!! To say the rules aren't clear on Troy Robinson's "double dip" on the 50% points reduction, and do nothing, BUT inform other clubs this is ok for Gladstone and not them is simply insulting and weak! And to allow RIP to keep playing with their current roster while one of their players names is on the "Unrestricted 5 point player list" yet rate him a 2 is well quite simply, cheating.

I don't think you can strip the over the cap teams of their points, but the real criminal will be BQ if they continue to allow it to happen this season. You can't put your head in the sand and say "we'll fix it next season". That's not good enough. This season is worth ten's of thousand's of dollars to most clubs and how they go "next season" depends on this one.

Rip- oh hey there we'd like to get Tueta changed from a 5 on the list as an unrestricted NBL player who's played 4 or more games, down to a 2 point player please.

BQ- What basis do you have for the reduction?

Rip- it would help us out heaps, even though we were a top 5 team and top 2 most of the year.

BQ- but that's not the rules?

              Rip- cmon?

              BQ- ok

That's actually how the conversation must of gone down lol. Seahawks are a new club too with no 100 gamers.

Exactly. Clubs cheating because they can but I’m sorry at the end of the day the buck stops with BQ. They are the management of the competition and it’s their responsibility to uphold the rules as per precedents that already exist. “ nervous inexperienced” comps manager is not accurate nor an excuse regardless. Use resources from previous years and it’s clear no one has ever been re pointed mid season or double reductions. Ask trusted clubs in the league how a rule has previously been applied if you need to but don’t just make it up as you go along. Big money at play in the qbl through sponsorship, player fees etc.

Taking out transparency rules is shady and clearly obvious now why. If you believe rule changes were made by comps manager alone you’re kidding yourself. If you run a comp you should have nothing to hide.

Too many mistakes and errors have been made for them to just be ignored or brushed off as BQ interpreting the rules differently. Clubs need to push the issue to higher levels.

“For the 2018 QBL Season, any player who took to the court in less than four (4) games in the 2017/18
NBL/WNBL season shall be classified as a Category 5 (Unrestricted NBL/WNBL Players) player under this
            Points System.”

So much for this brand new rule for the 2018 season.

So Tueta played 4 games last season, 19 games the season before that but has been rated a 2 by BQ! A top 5 team being given a 3 point deduction on a player “just because”. Black and white rules just being disregarded.

Rip had no less than 3 U18 Boys teams in classics this year so obviously juniors as .5 players on a roster isn’t an issue.. that’s an easy 30 players. All they have is no chance of 100 game reductions but there’s hardly an abundance of those at any rate!!! Have Runaway Bay been offers the same discount as the new club???

            Dispicable!
