Brisbane need to look at bringing in a big, plain and simple. Their interior defence was found lacking in the 2017 playoffs. Had to double the post due to lack of size and the Rockets were able to pass and find the open man. Brisbane rely on their defence pushing the ball around the perimeter and contesting a long shot. If they have banger protecting the paint, they might actually win the chip. Dusty has been a work horse for them, but if he returns he needs back up. They looked better in 2016 when Malloy was an option, they just got outplayed by the Cairns bigs who were more experienced. But get an import big.......just saying

Anderson definitely returning and Nelson played ProB so won't count as restricted.
I believe that Onwas is returning too to finalize their squad.

Well if they're not hitting the gym, there's PLENTY of money in the bank to replace their deep spot on the bench.

Surely they wouldn’t go get more paid players to come off there bench, With the team they are putting together now.

Mackay will be favourites once again this year, with there talent and there youth and Core players staying around!
this year looks like a good one for mackay!

            Mackay doesn’t have youth?

            Harvey 25
            Mitch gamblin 24
            Lukass 24
            Wicks 21
            Jed 21
            Collins 19
            Krause 17

They got youth, they just never use it

They have the best core of players in the QBL for the last 4-6 Years

Townsville have youth of course always have, but if you have mackay 23s team vs Townsville 23s team
            Who would win

Week 1 Matchups ( Based on last year and rumours)
Toowoomba vs Cairns - Morseu will bring some excitement and new structure but Cairns will handle this with their semi NBL squad.
Rockhampton vs Logan - Rocky has been the recruiting champs this offseason and Logan running with new coach Cann this will be interesting but Tweedy will have his men firing from the tip.
Rip vs Phoenix - Maroochydore on Maroochydore crime. Rip to handle this and easily returning their full squad plus another import.
Ipswich vs Cairns - Cairns on the second leg of the road trip should still have enough horses for the surprising Ipswich, expect a finals push for the Force under direction of new head coach and recruits.
South West vs Spartans - No Kendle no Kickert will South West have the horses to compete with a star loaded and Gibson / Jervis led Spartans.
Rip vs Runaway Bay - Anomaly of the draw Rip hosting a home double header and will account for the basically SBL equiped Bay, might be a rude shock for Bay what the step up actually is.
Mackay vs Logan - Logan on he second leg of a horror road double to start, Mackay Returning a completely unchanged and healthy line up will be too strong for Logan.
Phoenix vs Runaway Bay - Bay with a Maroochydore road double to open, this will be a close one but Phoenix will be too deep and too good.
South West vs Cairns - Cairns on the third leg of a road triple will not be able to compete with the youthful exuberance of the Pirates at the Ship.
Gold Coast vs Brisbane - Caps have been the dominant team in the south for the last few years and can’t see this changing this year, strong rumours check books open and spending big time by Trev and expect Caps to be the team to beat, no news as yet out of GC what direction they are going or who’s coaching. Maybe Garvie is back at the helm.

LIKE many coaches at this time of the year, Chris Riches enjoys camping and fishing.

Having finished another stint teaching at Ipswich State High, he's spending some valuable time with his Coalfalls-based family.

However, before heading to the coast, the recently appointed Ipswich Force men's head coach has focused on signing key players for the 2018 Queensland Basketball League season.

              The ladies rumour mill..
              The north

              Townsville
Retained coach. If they can get Flanny back and mia newley along with Garbin are going to be very very tough
              Verdict: 2nd
              Cairns
Lost coach and have lost evans. Will need to recruit heavily and get some of there youth into the mix to have a good year.
              Verdict - bottom 4
              Mackay
New coach and have lost Payne who is there main scoring threat. I don't think Pelvast will go back and I believe Zelenka has retired. Be a tough year but have the budget to be there at the end of the year. Good coach coming in but always a challenge to mould talent in the first year.
Will retain cocks I am sure and will spend a lot on bringing in some great talent but they need to move otherwise they will lose the edge
              Verdict: 5th
              Rocky
Retained coach and the core of the group. With some good WNBL talent and some luck they will be very very tough in 2018.
              Verdict 2nd
              Gladstone
Must admit last year this team did a lot better then I thought, but when you have a good budget things always come together. They have retained there coach again from last year and he did a pretty good job so I am guessing they will be good again.. 2 good imports along with the likes of Purcell means they will be tough again. I am sure they will attract some WNBL talent also and will be tough!
              Verdict: 3rd

Will do the Central Pool tomorrow

              Standings
              1. Rocky
              2. Townsville
              3. Gladstone
              4. Brisbane Spartans
              5. Mackay
              6. Logan
              7. Ipswich
              8. Gold Coast
              9. Brisbane Capitals
              10. Gold Coast North
              11 RIP City
              12. Caboolture
              13. South West
              14. Cairns
              15. Toowomba
