    ROUND 12

    TOOWOOMBA v LOGAN
Women - Logan will win this won in a landslide. Coach Cann has silenced the critics, while Toowoomba need to seriously look at their program development. And I don't mean the players.
Men - Logan are on the rise and chasing a finals spot. Toowoomba must be in a state of wtf, letting Washington go. I know he wasn't a proven QBL player, but were his numbers that bad ? Must be an off court issue, and that points to management. Time to push the broom through Toowoomba.

    CAIRNS v MACKAY
Women - The Mackay girls had a good weekend just gone and continue to push for home court advantage. Should be a good game, but Mackay by 15.
Men - Cairns have a different look with Weigh back in the fold, but Mackay are just too deep. Mackay by 10

    SUNSHINE COAST v BRISBANE
Women - This game could go either way, with the Caps girls under performing this season. Phoenix are young and that may be the deciding factor. Caps by 5
Men - The Caps men will be doing laps this week after letting the SW game slip. Meanwhile the Phoenix have shown glimpses of form....but not enough to get the Caps a 2 loss run. Capitals by 20.

    SOUTH WEST v IPSWICH
Women - Ipswich women are still in the fold and need this game to continue. SWM have the size, by Ippy have the speed. Ipswich by 5
Men - South West's roster has been up and down, and the W against the Caps without Kickert shows their real potential. Ipswich has the talent but haven't been able to put the W's on the board. If SWM are within 10 going into the 4th quarter, they will get the W. SWM by 5

    GLADSTONE v ROCKHAMPTON
Women - Power will take the regional derby and spell a further fall from grace for the Cyclones. Power by 15
Men - The Rockets have changed their roster and finally found some good combos, beating the RIP last weekend. Power will fight hard but 40 points from Willis might not even be enough. Rocky by 10

    TOWNSVILLE v MACKAY
Women - Great match up. Mackay should still be fresh as well, with their bench playing big minutes against Cairns. Mackay by 5
Men - This is an interesting one. Tville stumbled early but are on track for a top 4 spot. Will their 2 weeks off hurt or help ? Mackay by 5

    USC v BRISBANE
Women - Two teams that match up very well. Caps backing up will hurt. RIP by 10
Men - Calling the úpset'and tipping the RIP in this one. Caps can't contain the duo of Hurdle and Tueta. RIP by 8

    GOLD COAST v SPARTANS
Women - No contest. Spartans from the tip-off.
Men - Gold Coast will play hard but without TC their scoring power is limited. Spartans without Jervis ? Spartans by 10

Coach Cann had silenced his critics - his coaching nearly lost the game for Logan last Sunday - he is living on some good players - his coaching is not helping the team

Living on some good players. Isn't it the coach that assembles the roster ?

Cann didn't assemble this roster. The only one that he brought into this roster was Castro the import. The rest were already brought in over the past few years - Gaze, Smith, Donnelly etc so that argument is out the window

I really believe there is a real shortage of good coaches in the QBL.. There is real talent out there. But wow coaches ... But I must say I'd hate to coach the Neers. Anthony is not the answer as he does not have a clue. But wow the lack of respect has never been there ever. From SBL to QBL. I guess a coach gets respect by deserving it.

Question is for Twba where to from here. There are issues all the way through from Jnrs up. And there Under 21 program this is were good coaches need to be. Not players that cant even make there QBL roster.

Ippy same Mick may know what plays to run .. But as a Coach there is more then just that from both player and Coach.

Gold Coast .. Big $$ and nothing again ?

The ones I look at is teams like Tarrant .. He is a drill sargent . Would be hard to play for. But youd know where you stand.

I think young players are wrapped in cotton wool. To many high fives not enough tuff love.

A coach can become accountable for the losses if the team does what he asks

There is a real shortage of good coaches, but there is also a shortage of development. Tell me 1 club that invests $$ into their coaching ranks, and I don't mean paying the head coach. There have been some really good coaches running open sessions recently, how many Coaches, AC's, Rep coaches were there ? It would cost nothing (compared to some coaches salary) to bring up a guest and run sessions for all your coaches.

The issue in Toowoomba is a product of their own doing. Look squarely at the Board. Anthony is a servant of TBA and put his hand up when needed. They had one good year on the back of Kendle, and thought they had the formula right. They have one of the raw talents in Aleer yet don't know how to use him. If I was a player in the womens program, that is where I would feel frustrated. This team was given a coach with no connection to the town and zero experience above individuals.

Don't think you're quite correct. There are very good coaches out there but associations aren't clear in what they require. To many associations are run by people with good hearts but no real business or basketball skill. BQ offer very little help or advice as they themselves are very short on quality.
Associations need to have clear guidelines about what they are in QBL for and run their program along those lines. They then need to communicate those with the coaches selection panel and make that clear to the coach they appoint.
Too many coaches are appointed because they are mates with someone, with no real guidelines from the management of the association. This leads to conflict between the Head Coach and the association as the coach may be coaching for very different outcomes than what the association requires or wants.

This is a valid discussion. Sure BQ is pushing the development of junior coaching but little to nothing is being done for senior improvement.

I can't recall a time that has been such a genuine dearth of senior coaches waiting in the wings. Put it this way - if you wiped every current QBL team clean of the head coaches, who would respectfully fill the void? Yep there are a few veteran coaches who've filled roles before and could step in again, but who are the fresh faces that deserve a chance?

Focusing on junior coaching is great and absolutely needed, but senior coaching is a completely different kettle of fish and we can't expect anyone from junior coaching to step up to the big dogs without some experience, training and guidance.

    ROUND 12

    TOOWOOMBA v LOGAN
Women - Hardest part of the game for Logan will be warming up! Logan by plenty
Men - Toowoomba sacking an import with an already thin lineup doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. Logan by 20

    CAIRNS v MACKAY
Women - This will be a good game, will the travel affect Mackay? Not enough, Mackay by 10
Men - One of the games of the round, Mackay with too much size for Cairns. Mackay by 15

    SUNSHINE COAST v BRISBANE
    Women - Brisbane by 10
Men - Brisbane to bounce back from their last loss to win by 10

    SOUTH WEST v IPSWICH
Women - Both teams with solid wins last weekend, Ipswich with too much depth. Ipswich by 8
Men - South West with the huge upset over Brisbane last weekend. They should have too much for Ipswich and win by 15

    GLADSTONE v ROCKHAMPTON
Women - Rockhampton are really struggling and Gladstone will want to bounce back after a 1-2 road trip. Gladstone by 20
Men - CQ Rivalry here with it being a big game for both teams. Rockhampton are very thin without the twins and if they don't play here Gladstone to win by 10

    TOWNSVILLE v MACKAY
Women - Townsville will get Mackay with weary legs here. Townsville by 5.
Men - Mackay with another tough game, they keep beating the top teams tho and have to be title favourites. Mackay by 5

    USC v BRISBANE
Women - USC with a good win over Rockhampton last weekend, should follow it up with another by 5.
Men - USC will be licking their wounds after a tough North road trip going 0-2. I have them beating a tired Caps by 5.

    GOLD COAST v SPARTANS
Women - Spartans bench with the win by plenty.
Men - Torrey Craig killing the NBA Summer League, huge coup from the QBL for him to have played this season. Spartans too much depth, by 20

The appointment of Toowoomba's women's coach needs investigation by BQ. How could a highly experienced Coach and her very well qualified assistant Coach be appointed, sacked and replaced with a Coach
with absolutely no Coaching experience and now showing a nil win record with most losses in excess of 30 points and the talk is that he may be in the running to be reappointed for next year, very very strange.

Rocky has been doing good without the brothers for some time now. Why would the twins suddenly play this weekend?

The Brisbane Bullets have named a squad high on NBL and international experience for the game vs Team China on July 18 at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure centre at Carrara.

Yeah He only had 36 and they the Power won by 22.

On a more somber note a speedy recovery to James Legan and real gentleman of the game after a very serious leg injury last night.
Hope this doesn't end his career and we see him back after rehab

Gold Coast women's team is an embarrassment to the league that should be folded.
